Shahrukh Khan for Environment

The Badshah of Environment & Wildlife Conservation Campaigns!

Shahrukh Khan is not only the un-disputed badshah of Indian cinema and one of the most successful film stars in the world but also a well-known environmentalist and philanthropist. Have a glimpse of his humanistic activities below.

As Sunfeast Hara Banao Campaigner:

As a supporter of environmental campaigns he participated in Sunfeast Hara Banao Campaign in Bhubhaneswar held by ITC Foods in the year 2006. In addition to aiming at educating children about the environmental problems it is meant for motivating them to contribute for “saving the environment”. About 3,00,000 students from more than 400 schools spread across five cities in the country registered for that campaign. Besides that it organised a signature drive - "Sow a Seed Today" Campaign. It also hosted the Sunfeast Hara Banao Week which consisted of a series of Environment Fairs across five cities. The Environment Fair was formally kickstarted with the planting of a sapling and a march in each city.

As a Wildlife Conservationist:

SRK turned a wildlife conservationist too in 2007. Shahrukh Khan did his bit conveying the nation about the hardships and toetures faced by the forest guard in protecting country's wildlife. Shahrukh Khan was roped in by an NGO, Sanskara Trust and Asian Conservation Awareness Programme (ACAP) to do campaigns against poaching and killing of wildlife in Indian forests.

As a Greenathon Supporter:

As we know Shahrukh Khan is one of the supporters of the Greenathon,  an NDTV-Toyota green campaign to save the environment. It was started in April 2008 as Greenathon-1. The primary goal of the campaign is to create awareness among the people of India to rejuvenate and sustain the greenery of the Mother Nature. Vikram Chandra (the CEO of NDTV group), Priyanka Chopra (the campaign ambassador) and Cyrus Broacha have been anchoring for the show, which is an all-day-long program on NDTV channels. The Greenathon helps villages with cleaning up water bodies, rivers and recycling plastic bags. SRK adopted 12 villages to work for the welfare of the villagers and to raise awareness about the environment.

As a Visionary of Gandhi:

Once the father of the nation said, "The true India is to be found not in its few cities, but in its seven hundred thousand villages. If the villages perish, India will perish too."
