A Power of Inspiration and Motivation:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the most followed cricketers in the world. Naturally he has a huge fan base and can impress and attract an enormous attention towards any sensitive topic in a jiffy. In the name of business, growth and development a considerable part of the forests have been destroyed and billions of innocent animals in the wild have been killed. At this juncture Dhoni's involvement in environmental activities is an impetus both to environmental activists and lovers of the nature.
Ambassador to Jharkhand Government:
Dhoni is not only the face of Jharkhand Government's pulse polio and literacy programmes but also the forestry and other environment campaigns.
"Save the Tiger" Campaign:
Dhoni who has been at the forefront of the 'Save the Tiger' campaign became the brand ambassador for Jharkhand's endangered species too.
Adopted a Tiger:
In 2011 MS Dhoni adopted a tiger in the Mysore zoo. He donated money to take care of the expenses of the nine-year-old tiger named Agasthya. Agasthya is a zoo-bred tiger and was reportedly moved to a special enclosure. In a message, Dhoni said: "Tiger, our national animal, needs protection. I'm adopting Agasthya to endorse and encourage our people to love animals and to stand for the cause of animal rights and conservation. Live and let live."
Adopted a Rescue Dog:
An innumerable dogs and cats are struggling to survive on the street due to lack of sufficient food and shelters. As a gesture of compassion in 2013 Mahendra Singh Dhoni adopted a rescued dog from a slum in the drains of the Shyamli colony by an animal shelter - Hope and Animal Trust Ranchi . Singh joined a long list of compassionate celebrities. It had finally found warmth and love in the laps of a well-known animal-loving couple - Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sakshi. Dhoni called the adopted pup "Leah" in English and "Liya" in Hindi.
World Environment Day Participant:
On the occasion of World Environment Day, 5 June 2015, India’s current and former cricketers came together to celebrate the Green Day to raise awareness towards protecting nature and the planet. MS Dhoni was one of the participants along with Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane and planted saplings to make people aware of the importance of the Mother Nature.
Planting a Tree on Birthday:
On July 7, 2016 by planting a tree at his farm house ‘Kailashpati’ he had certainly won billions of hearts by this gesture. He tweeted it as the best way to celebrate his birthday by planting the first and very special tree at the farm house.
Mr Dhoni's deeds are definitely hope to become an inspiration to a number of his fans to become compassionate towards animals and a motivation to become the true activists to serve the Mother Nature in getting a new life out of the hands of both active and passive destroyers! It's common for him to face the challenges of bearing the triple responsibility of being a specialist batsman, wicket keeper and captain in his career. In future we hope he would be active by taking the triple responsibility of animal rescues, tree planting and overall environmental protection!
